A memoir of Toivo Laukkanen

In Laterna Magica from 25.05.2010 to 13.06.2010

Physical Realities of Death - A Memoir of Toivo Laukkanen, a new contemporary photography installation by Tristan Cai pushes the limits of art photography and concepts of representation and aesthetics.

The installation deals with the themes of the values of living, the masculinity role and death. These fundamental issues are intriguing but often not easy to bring into conversations. Through careful academic research and interviews with mental healthcare workers and patients, this collection of stories and information is being retold through the character Toivo Laukkanen.

Tristan is a visual artist who works primarily with photography. His art revolve around creating a cinematic spectacle, photographs produced are visual representations of his doubts and insecurities. The process of creating images of his worst fears effects into a personal catharsis which he effectively transfers to the audience.
