
Laterna Magica's summer exhibition features photographs by several photographers who have photographed Helsinki.

The exhibition includes works by the following photographers: Jorma Hinkka, Martti Jämsä, Jaakko Kilpiäinen, Johnny Korkman, Antti Närhi, Sanni Seppo, Antero Takala, Tuomo-Juhani Vuorenmaa and Tapio Wilska.

Jaakko Kilpiäinen has a background in documentary photography. He has worked as a photojournalist and as a documentary film director and screenwriter. Kilpiäinen is interested in people, phenomena, periods and national peculiarities. The topics are often related to architecture and its phenomena and styles.
Johnny Korkman (b.1949) is a professional photographer who also enjoys photography in his spare time. Korkman reflects: “I have always been a fan of direct photography. My images testify to the existing reality. Most of my photos in the series By the Way were taken during vacations, when the daily photography tasks had eased and there were no instructions or order to the photography that would have defined what and how to photograph.”
Antti Närhi (b.1979) is a Helsinki-based photographer from Savo, whose black-and-white cityscapes have been shot on film over the past few years. Närhi's solo exhibition Boys of Summer - Suven pojat was seen at Laterna in autumn 2020.
Sanni Seppo (b.1960) is a Helsinki-based photographic artist whose work tells the story of communities' activism in defending their rights, the relationship between humans and nature, and the fragile dreams of living a life that is lived on its own terms. She is also interested in the possibilities of influencing through photography and serves as the second artistic director of the Political Photography Festival.
Photographic artist, professor Antero Takala (b. 1939) lives and works in Helsinki. He has held numerous solo exhibitions since 1966 in different parts of the world: landscapes, portraits and experimental photography. Antero Takala received the State Prize for his work as a photographer in 1967 and 1973. He worked as a chief photographer for Yleisradio, Finnish Broadcasting Company. The images in this exhibition are from the series Lumen valoa, Snow Light.
Tuomo-Juhani Vuorenmaa is known especially for his work as an editor of the magazines Valokuva (Photograph) and Valokuvaaja (Photographer) and Musta Taide, as an author of works and exhibitions related to the history of Finnish photography, and as a publisher of photography books. However, Vuorenmaa has also been a photographer constantly. This exhibition features images from the series Insomnia from 1982.
Tapio Wilska (b.1969) is a musician and artist living in Porvoo, whose drawings and photographs have been seen on Finnish album covers and band shirts, among other things. In addition to street photos, the exhibition also includes a few photos from concerts.
