Ville Pirinen

Brush Pen on Paper, drawings

Ville Pirinen (b.1973) was born in Kitee and lives in Tampere. He is a comics artist and writer and musician. His exhibition in Laterna Magica's Tile and Cellar galleries consists of both older material and works that have been made for this exhibition with the said felt tip pen. Square #65 - Välitila - The Space between, photographs

Paula Haapalahti's photography exhibition opens in Laterna Magica's Book Gallery space in May. Haapalahti describes her process: "The photographs in this exhibition reflect my thoughts and experiences in the past 10 years. At first I thought this project might be only for myself but maybe by sharing these works I can share something of myself and reach into the viewers' experience, the space between." Exhibition Omia mea mecum porto - All that is mine I carry with me in Laterna Magica's Tile and Cellar Galleries consists of light art, installations and collages. Artists Jyrki Sinisalo and Mari Vallemaa both work in the Roihupelto art quarter and are also members in the art association Taidekortteli ry. Edith Södergran

Maailma on minun - The World is Mine

Opening and Book launch on April 4th from 5-7 PM in the Book Gallery space is photography by Edith Södergran (1892 –1923) in an exhibition Maailma on minun - The World is Mine. Södergran was a Swedish-speaking Finnish poet, one of the first modernists within Swedish-language literature and loved by generations of readers. Agneta Rahikainen and Eira Sillanpää have collected Södergran's poetry and photography into a book and an exhibition, which bears the name Maailma on minun - The World is Mine. The book comes out in two languages, Edith Södergrans mother-tongue Swedish and in translation in Finnish.

Miia Kallio and Otto Santala

Obstacles, ceramic sculptures, oil paintings and video works

The joint exhibition of Miia Kallio and Otto Santala, "Obstacles" in Gallery Laterna Magica's Cellar and Tile Galleries consists of ceramic sculptures, oil paintings, and video works. Kallio is a visual and ceramic artist, focusing on the use of Finnish red clay, or "wild clay" in her work. Essi Hurme's exhibition consists of ceramic sculptures and pastel paintings. The pastel paintings by Essi Hurme are portraits and colour studies of imaginary persons. Her ceramic sculptures or"sitters", as she calls them are a part of a larger series that has been ongoing for years and this exhibition lets some of the sitters take their place on the Book gallery walls. Ari Jaskari (b,1958) is known for his photos depicting the Saimaa lake district and the people on its shores.
