Other I

In our Tile and Cellar Galleries we will have an exhibition by Jenni Haili called Other I, which consists of several series of works, which reflect the themes of identity, otherness and fear while they also include themes from fairytales and play. The exhibition consists mostly of Jenni Haili's photography but there are some curated works from Anna Englund, Jonas Haili, Marika Hyvärinen, Jaakko Kilpiäinen and Ulla Sangervo.

The exhibition opening is on Thursday August 20th from 3 PM to 7 PM.

Haili uses mainly historical, slow and rather difficult methods of photography: cyanotype, daguerrotype, wet plate ambrotype (also known as wet plate collodion), tin type and photolitography. Through these methods her photographs bring together past and present as well as reality and fiction.

Jenni Haili (b. 1980) is a Helsinki based visual artist who graduated from the Aalto University School of Art, Design and Architecture in 2011. She works with a multitude of techniques, mainly basing her works on photography. In her works Haili links the form and medium to the concept of the piece in a significant manner. A reoccurring theme in her work is a play with showing and hiding. Haili’s works have been shown in several solo and group exhibitions both in Finland and abroad. She also works as photography technician and part time teacher in the Art University Helsinki’s Academy of Fine Arts.
