The Helsinki Art School is an art school that provides basic art education for children and youths between the ages of 4 and 20 once a week in teaching groups and period teaching. The curriculum of visual arts is implemented in school education: it is goal-oriented and progresses from year to year. Teachers are professional artists and visual arts teachers.

The graduating class, Kurkottaja students, present an exhibition called ulkona sisällä, or outside inside which consists of work done in the past year. Kurkottaja students have worked independently with their projects throughout the year of the pandemic. The name outside inside does not refer to the graduating work itself as much as if refers to the challengin circumstances. They are the age group that has had to study remotely for over a year already. They have been forced to a life outside but indoors. Still this exhibition is a testament to their tenacity as they managed to get these projects done.
