Dimensions of Being is an exhibition consisting of works on paper and textiles by Marja Leena Eerola that will se seen in Laterna Magica's Tile and Cellar Galleries in September. The opening of the exhibition on Tuesday September 9th from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Warm Welcome!

The exhibition deals with the different dimensions of being, the beauty and contradictions of life. The works are inspired by the rhythms, colors and shapes of nature. I study and observe the nature around me and the diversity of life, which is present everywhere. Small details form larger wholes. The little things in our daily lives are connected to the big world around us. Personal experiences and the associations they evoke are the initial impetus for the works, which take their final form after slow, artisanal stages.

Nature is a part of us and we are a part of nature. The works repeat the formal language of nature, fascinating patterns and colors. Lines and rhythm convey a sense of movement, the flow of everything. I am attracted to the different properties of materials, surface structures, translucency and three-dimensionality. The work comes to life when the thin material moves lightly with the air current. Things familiar from everyday life take on new meaning in print works. Light and airy works are juxtaposed with more stable elements. Opposites balance each other.

I work mainly with letterpress methods, but I creatively combine other techniques within prints. I mostly realize my ideas as three-dimensional works and installations, where materiality is strongly present. In my works, I use hand-processed materials, paper and fabric, separately and in combination. At the same time, I explore the coordination of different methods, materials and ways of making.

Marja Leena Eerola graduated as a visual artist from the Turku Academy of Arts in 2023 and from the Pekka Halonen Academy of Fine Arts in 2022. Her works have been exhibited in private and group exhibitions since 2014. Eerola lives and works in Kirkkonummi.
