Kasperi Kropsu's first solo exhibition in Laterna Magica is like a nostalgic window into the past.

Nostalgia is concidered a cliché in street photography, but Kropsu, who endlessly wanders the streets, is convinced that it is not quite that simple. Nostalgia is not just a feeling or a space, it is also the way we photograph and with what means of expression. In Kropsu's photographs, these subgenres of nostalgia are subconsciously connected and create a unified picture, from which certain elements of a certain time have been excluded.

The Quiet Life -exhibition contains remnants of the photographer's childhood, 1990’s Finland, and the current landscape, where Scandinavian minimalism has not yet firmly grasped the city.

He examines Helsinki through the eyes of a child and finds fragments of past times that are like a disappearing natural resource in today's A.I.-focused development. Glimpses into magical scenes that pass by the eyes of citizens in the hustle and bustle of transformation.

The novelization of everyday life is thus an increasingly common concept among younger generations, as it returns the experience of life to the grassroots level. Kropsu's photographs do not primarily rely on explicit explanation, but rather on the essence of pure presence, as the story of ordinary life is evident in the movements, gestures and nature of the citizens who inhabit the city. He is an observer in quiet moments, watching, while others are already dreaming of tomorrow.

The exhibtion opens with a reception on Tuesday, September 30, from 5 p.m to 7 p.m. Warm welcome!
