Tue December 5th, 5-7 PM

Welcome to two exhibition openings at the gallery on Tuesday Dec 5th from 5-7 PM. In our Book Gallery space of Reijo Porkka in Memoriam, an exhibition of Reijo Porkka's (1947-2013) photography. INn Laterna Magica's Tile and Cellar gallery opens Sanna Johnansson's photography exhibition Maisemasta. Both exhibitions are on view until Jan 6th 2024. Please note that the gallery is closed on Independence day December 6th and around Christmas Dec 24-26 and also around New Year's Dec 31-Jan 1.

Drink&Collage is an evening where you get to know the world of collage art by making it yourself. Participants' fee 35 € to be paid at the gallery at the start of the workshop. Group is now fully booked.

Tuesday October 3, from 5-7 PM

Welcome to two exhibition openings on Tuesday October 3rd 5-7 PM. In our Tile Gallery Tero Makkonen's mystical night time views can be seen in the photo exhibition Lepäävä kuu. Tini Sauvo's glimmering textile works glow in the Cellar gallery, with the theme Firmamento, celestial sphere. Spaces and artworks are connected by the sound world created by Esa Lindroos. In our Book Gallery space Tiina Eräpuu’s exhibition Verhot auki consists of drawings, prints and artist books. Both exhibitions are open until October 21st, 2023.

Welcome to the Night of the Arts at Laterna Magica! We have two exhibition openings from 5 PM. In our Tile and Cellar Galleries Kenneth Jimenez's Verolís and Roberto Murilloa Arias' Things I Want You to Remember, photography from Costa Rica. In our Book Gallery Pekka Aino, Erkki Peltomaa and Hannu Peltomaa: Perforated Hide- snapshots by Finnish film-makers in the 1970s and 1980s. After 7.30 PM, two live gigs, first Muovi Makkonen and at around 8.30 PM Sörnäinen, acoustic!

In our summer workshop we have a special guest with us: artist Petra Giacomelli, whose exhibition Heinäkuun yö - July Night in Laterna Magica's cellar galleries consists of collage paintings on paper and canvas, artist books, beeswax sculptures and a musical videowork. Welcome to exhibition openings on Tuesday June 27th from 5-7 PM. Opening in the Tile and Cellar galleries Petra Giacomelli's ”Heinäkuun Yö - A July Night" is an exhibition inspired by a surrealist short story written by Bruno Schultz (1892-1942). The exhibition consists of collage paintings on paper and canvas, artist books, beeswax sculptures and a musical videowork. In our Book Gallery we have ceramic sculptures in Sami Rinne's exhibition Ote yksisarvisten elämästä - A Glimpse into the lives of the unicorns, which depicts the joys and sorrows in the lives of the unicorns.

Meet the artists at the gallery on the last day of the exhibitions. In Laterna Magica's Tile and Cellar galleries: Ville Pirinen's exhibition and sound world Brush pen on paper. In our Book Gallery Paula Haapalahti's photography exhibition Square #65 - Välitila - The Space between.

Cellar Gallery

Ville Pirinen Combat School rolls, wails and crawls in circles in the wasteland between the traditional singer-songwritership and experimental rock. The band consists of Jutta Luhtinen playing drums and synthesizers and Ville Pirinen who sings and plays bass guitar. Tickets 5 €

Pretty Marc Duo (Marc Aulén ja Antti Porkka) performs in the Laterna Magica Cellar Gallery on Thursday June 1st at 6 PM. The duo will play the songs of Pretty Marc rock'n roll band acoustically. Tickets 7 €

Fri May 26th at 6 PM

In May Äänen Lumo brings the composer John McCowen for a visit in Helsinki, to perform his solo pieces for contrabass clarinet. His work focuses on expanding the limits of the clarinet by embracing multiphonic drones and beating harmonics. Tickets 5 €

Welcome to two exhibition openings on Tuesday May 2nd from 5-7 PM.In Laterna Magica's Tile and Cellar galleries: The graduating exhibition Maailmassani - In My World by Helsinki Art School students and in the spring exhibition by Toimela print workshop. This group exhibition presents fine art prints from Toimela print maker courses which are lead by Sari Bremer.

Welcome to two exhibition openings on Tuesday April 4th from 5-7 PM. In Laterna Magica's Tile and Cellar galleries the exhibition by Jyrki Sinisalo and Mari Vallemaa OMNIA MEA MECUM PORTO -All that is mine I carry with me consists of light art, installations and collages. In the Book Gallery space we have photography by Edith Södergran (1892-1923) in an exhibition Maailma on minun - The World is Mine which will also be published as a book (Agneta Rahikainen and Eira Sillanpää eds.) on the opening night.
